Burke County wrapped up the sub-region championship Friday in a 69-34 rout of Benedictine. The Cadets won an earlier meeting, but the Bears took the fight out of them this time. Burke County is 19-4 overall before Tuesday's game against Evans. Scores were not available at press time. More ... After four straight wins, the Burke County Lady Bears enter the Region 3-AAA tournament in at least fifth place. The south side of the region has Hephzibah in the top spot with Liberty in second. The remaining teams in the sub-region are muddled together in the middle with nearly identical records. The Lady Bears are 3-7 in sub-region and 8-14 overall. More ... Three local boys are members of a nationally ranked baseball team that's also number one in the state. Logan Christian, John Evans Jr. and James Malcom are members of the Classic Shockers Gray, a USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) AA baseball team for boys 13 and under that is currently ranked first in the state of Georgia. More ... The Spartans have one more chance to claim a victory before the regular season comes to an end. Their record now stands at 0- 16, and they'll face region foe Frederica Academy at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday for another shot at a win before region playoffs begin next week. More ... Edmund Burke Academy's Lady Spartans (5-10, 2-5) picked up their second region win last Friday night with a 44-38 victory over Memorial Day School. Up next, they'll face Frederica Academy on Saturday in their last game before region play. More ... Boys and girls hustled up and down the court showing off some skills Saturday morning at Citizens Park.
