Burke Medical Center receives accreditation
      Burke Medical Center has once again been awarded a three-year term of Accreditation in Mammography. This accreditation comes after a recent survey conducted by the American College of Radiology (ACR). According to Joan Oglesby, radiology manager, the ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation.

County supports trials
      The Georgia Field Trial Association can rest assured that the community supports its endeavor. Burke commissioners pledged to contribute $15,000 to the GFTA during their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 9, to help improve the facilities at Di-Lane Plantation WMA.

Brinson named Midville Mayor
      Midville has a new mayor. City council tapped Marion E. "Butch" Brinson to serve as their new mayor after a brief discussion behind closed doors last Thursday night. Brinson will replace former mayor Bruce Anderson, who resigned last month. Anderson, the longtime Midville police chief later elected as mayor, gave up the office due to illness and a need to relocate.

Local woman wins $1 million in lottery
      A million dollars couldn't stop one lucky local woman from serving lunches to Burke County school children. Daisy Mae Atwell of Waynesboro scratched her way to $1 million last week in the Georgia Lottery. Despite the instant riches, she plans to keep her job at the Burke County High School cafeteria, where she's worked for the past five years.
