A simple step of faith
Rev. Saxon returns to Burke
By Drew Stone Staff Writer

Hebron International Baptist Church recently started its ministry in Burke County, but its senior pastor, the Rev. Earl Saxon, is no stranger to the area.

In his 38 years of ministry, Saxon has been the pastor of many area churches including Calvary Baptist Church and Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta and Rosemont Heights Baptist Church in Waynesboro.

However, it is with his new ministry that the Rev. Saxon, and his asscociate pastor, the Rev. Jerry Thangiah, are reaching out to the world.

Hebron International’s website states that its mission is to “reach the internationals that the Lord has brought to our doorsteps.” As a part of this mission, the church has a special focus on service work in India and Sri Lanka and is trying to reach the roughly 2,500 Asian Indians in Augusta and the CSRA.

As part of this special outreach, the Revs. Saxon and Thangiah have visited the Asian sub-continent many times. Saxon stated, “It took a simple step of faith” for him to expand his ministry into the Asian countries.

After taking this step, Saxon traveled to India to do mission work. While there, he and others accomplished many things including building churches, orphanages and homes. Saxon also traveled to Sri Lanka to help in the rebuilding effort after the devastating tsunami of 2005.

Hebron International Baptist Church services are held every Sunday starting at 9 a.m. A special Tamil worship service is held the fourth Sunday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
