Mr. Jacob "Lee" Carter Jr.

Mr. Jacob "Lee" Carter Jr., 90, of Waynesboro died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at R o s e m o n t Heights Baptist Church in Waynesboro with the Revs. Ellis Taff and Keith Alderman officiating.

Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends 6- 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter was born Aug. 5, 1916 in Waynesboro. He retired after working for 40 plus years with National Life & Accident Co., now American General. He worked with the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp., during the Great Depression in the 1930s and was a past member of the Rotary Club, head of Burke County Civil Defense, life-long supporter of many recreation and sports activities including coach of little league and American Legion baseball in the county. He was an umpire in the old Ogeechee Baseball League. His greatest loves were his family, his church and his flowers.

He was a charter member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and served on the Missions Committee at First Bap- tist Church in the founding of Rosemont. He served in numerous leadership positions in the church including deacon emeritus, trustee, church council and Sunday School director.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Elizabeth Posey Carter; a son and daughter in-law, Billy and Carolyn Carter of White Plains; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Edwin Stephens of Waynesboro; a daughter, Linda Carter of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Bill Carter Jr., Ken Stephens, Scott Carter, and Sadie Waters; seven great-grandchildren, Ashton Stephens, Megan Hillis, Malorie Carter, Paige Stephens, Rebecca Carter, Cale Waters and Logan Waters; a brother, William Broadus Carter of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Broadus "Bud" Carter Jr., Eddie Carter, Otis Glover, Clay Hooper, Don Ward, Lewis Foster, Bobby Posey and Jimmy Posey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rosemont Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 710 Stone Ave., Waynesboro, GA 30830.
