My Christmas tree got run over by a ...

A Girard woman called deputies after she ran over someone's Christmas tree.

According to a report, the woman was traveling on Highway 24 South when a Christmas tree fell from the pickup truck in front of her, and she was unable to stop in time. Deputies reported no damage to her vehicle.

Gas bandits

Two men who were arrested for not paying for their gas put city employees in danger during their "escape" route.

Michael Whitfield, 21, of 711 Brown Mobley Road, Sardis, and Cordalrd Shaundale Cooper, 20, of 1610 Smoketown Circle, Sardis, were arrested for driving away without paying for gasoline Tuesday, Nov. 28. Cooper was also charged with suspended, canceled or revoked registration.

According to a WPD report, the pair drove off from Burke Haven Corner Store after pumping $20 in gas. The store's owner said the driver held his foot on the brake while the passenger pumped. Then they fled - straight through a City of Waynesboro work zone. A city employee reported that the driving had been "excessively dangerous" to his employees.

The store's owner followed the men and flagged down a sheriff's deputy to stop them until Waynesboro Police could arrive.

The men stated the incident was a "big misunderstanding" and that they had simply forgotten to pay.

They were transported to the Burke County Jail.

Scent and Sensibility

A man whose scent made officers light-headed was arrested last Tuesday after he demanded they give him more beer.

Carl Davis, 48, of 4286 Quaker Road, Keysville, was arrested for public drunkenness after it was reported that he had been harassing customers at the Jet Food Store on North Liberty Street.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, Davis was advised to leave the premises several times but continued to disturb businesses and tried to stop moving traffic.

After Davis flagged down the same police officer, he was detained and asked to provide basic information about himself. He gave officers three phone numbers that were not his nor associated with him, and officers noted his speech was slurred, his eyes were glazed and bloodshot and he was dirty and reeked of alcohol. The report said officers became light-headed after he had been in their presence.

After Davis asked police for another beer, he was transported to the Burke County Jail. A $375 property bond was posted.

On the wrong track

Two men were caught with railroad tracks in their hands last Tuesday.

The men were at an old abandoned railroad track along the intersection of Highway 80 and 305, when police found them cutting the tracks. The officer reported the two had already succeeded in cutting approximately half a dozen seven foot sections of track. After contacting Norfolk Southern, the officer reported that the two offenders returned the tracks.
