My husband, Eddie, and I attended Wade Franklin's Pottery Open House in Midville Saturday and we had a wonderful time visiting folks in Midville.
Wade and his wife, Pam, and family moved to Midville about a year ago. I told Pam I know why they fell in love with the house they purchased. It has so much character.
After the open house, we ate at the Bus Station Barbecue. It was a pleasure to talk with owner, Jeff Bunn. His mother, Winnie Bunn and niece, Amy Bunn and friend, Julie Stuckey, waited on us.
Winnie filled us in on all the happenings in Midville.
I asked her about the house that was being restored a couple of doors down from the Bus Station.
She told me it belonged to Julie's parents, Joe and Beverly Stuckey from Portal. I asked if she thought they would show us the house if they were there and she said to tell them who we were and that we had talked to Winnie and Julie.
We were in luck! Joe and Beverly were at the house and gave us a tour. It was such a pleasure to hear about their restoration plans and how they go to auctions looking for building supplies and decorative finials, antique table legs and other interesting woodwork that just might work!
Their restoration plans may take two to three years, but you can tell they are excited about their work. They also have another reason for the lengthy project work.
Their other daughter and her husband, Jeana and John Durden, and their family recently returned from mission work in Alaska and purchased the oldest house in Midville adjacent to her parents' restoration home.
Also, Winnie told us about the new pastor of Midville Baptist Church, the Rev. Scott McKinney. The pastor and his family are living in the pastorium.
"Our church is growing and about 15 new members have been baptized. A lot of good is going on in our community and we are so proud," Winnie said.

Bud and Mildred Stroud were in Waynesboro Sunday visiting friends at Burkehaven Chapel. While here we made plans for them to see their old homeplace at 827 Liberty Street that we are restoring.
It was such a wonderful visit seeing them reminisce about their many years as a family living in the home, and Mrs. Stroud's Kindergarten.
During the renovation, our contractor found names of kindergarten students printed with different color markers on 4 by 2 inch squares of paper behind some tile work.
Among the names Mrs. Stroud recognized were Melissa Mann and Michelle Shaw.
If anyone remembers other students from this class, I will be happy to share these memories with you.

Ferney Guy called me last week to share great news about her brother, Leroy DeLaigle.
Leroy was diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer earlier in the year and the prognosis was not good.
After eight weeks of chemotherapy and 34 radiation treat- ments, his doctor says he shows no sign of the cancer!
Ferney and her family want to thank everyone who prayed, called and showed concern about her brother.
"It is a miracle that Leroy is cancer-free!" Ferney said.
He will go back for quarterly checkups for awhile and then biannually because of the agressive nature of his cancer.
