Bears shut out Rebels, host Mustangs for Homecoming Burke County shut out another victim last week to improve to 4-3 on the season. This week, the Bears host the South Effingham Mustangs for Homecoming. Like the Bears, the Mustangs are 4-3 and run the wing-T and an even-front defense. They are a good, solid football team. This is the second straight year the Mustangs have been in the Bear Den for Homecoming. In the 14-0 win over Hephzibah, the Bears racked up 281 rushing yards but were 1-5 for 10 yards in the passing game. "We've got to improve our passing game," head coach Steve Summers said. He pointed out that earlier in the season the Bears were more successful in the air. "We've got to get our confidence back," he added. The Bears put up a total of 291 yards offense and allowed the Rebels only 213. The Rebels had 110 on the ground and 103 passing. Mitchell Davis caught Tyler Hammett's only complete pass for 10 yards. Johnathan Cohen rushed 26 times for 143 yards. Julius Patterson had 113 yards on 17 carries, and Dustin Golden had 32 yards on 7 carries. Patterson scored both touchdowns for the Bears. The Bears got on the board in the first quarter and after halftime padded their lead. Bobby Burum added both PATs. |
