Mr. Joe Wheeler Quick Joe Wheeler Quick, 71, of Odom died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 after an extended illness. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Odum Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter, the Rev. Gabe Gill and Lemuel Bargeron (nephew) officiating. Interment was in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Quick, a Burke County native, had lived in Odum for the past 47 years. He was a member of the Odum Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, a retired employee of ITT Rayonier in Jesup, a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired barber. He served on the Wayne County Board of Education for eight years, was a former Little League Coach of softball, baseball and football and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Alan Quick; his parents, Joe Wheeler and Josie Quick of Waynesboro; and a sister, Mary Bargeron of Sylvania. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce Perkins Quick; four daughters and sons-in-law, Angie Davis and J.R. Wagner of Jonesboro, Kim and Jason Smith of Odum, Latrisa and Mitchell Brewer of Rincon and Bonnie and Mike Gordon of Jesup; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Jack Gatch of Savannah, Ollie Garza of Augusta, Margie Lively of Waynesboro and Gladys and Bob Gallop of Fallassee, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Becky Quick of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tommy Davis, Adrienne Browning, Andrea Browning, Rachael Brewer, Garret Brewer and Liana Mette; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Chamois Campbell, Josh Fenn, Donnie Gatch, K. O. Lively, Dwaine Mallard and Charles Quick. Honorary pallbearers were Ernie Adams, Ed Anderson, Felton Batten, Ed Copeland, Frank Harris, Tommy Keebler, Wayne Peacock, Edwin Poppell, Genell Poppell, Chester Thompson Sr., Bob Williams, Wendell Wells, Thad Brackin and members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Odum Baptist Church.
