A former Burke County football star died following a Saturday night accident along one of the most dangerous stretches of Burke Veterans Parkway.
Dominic Miquel Brown, 24, of Waynesboro was pronounced dead at Medical College of Georgia early Sunday morning, about five hours after he collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of Davis Road and the Highway 25 Bypass.
Brown was a 2001 graduate of Burke County High School and still holds a number of school records from his helm as quarterback.
According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, Brown pulled out in front of a vehicle occupied by three local teenagers, none of whom was seriously injured.
Police say at least 14 accidents have occurred at that intersection over the past few years, including one just 20 hours before the fatality.
"Numerous accidents occur at that intersection," Police Chief Karl E. Allen said. "We're fortunate there have not been other fatalities."
Brown was the sixth person killed on Burke County roadways this year and the second on the bypass.
