From the Blotter

Short peepers

Two men were spotted taking turns standing on top of a flower pot to peek inside someone's bathroom.

According to a report, the complaint was filed Tuesday, Sept. 26, when a Kingston Drive resident called police to report two black men attempting to look in his bathroom window. The victim said he went outside after his daughter told him she heard a noise, at which point he saw the two men taking turns on the flower pot which had been placed under the window.

The victim said when he confronted the two offenders they ran behind some neighboring houses. He then noticed the screen to the bathroom window had been removed.

No mower nice guy

A Waynesboro woman reportedly fired several shots from a gun after a neighbor's lawn mower left dirt on her vehicle.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the woman claimed that a neighbor had intentionally used his lawn mower to sling rocks onto her property and to create dust that would settle on her vehicles. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, when the woman confronted her neighbor, he cussed at her and then continued driving the lawn mower on the same area over and over again. The woman said there was no grass growing in that spot and that the ground was nothing other than dirt.

According to the man, the woman fired several shots from a gun after arguing with him about the mower. An off-duty officer also reported that he heard three or four gunshots from the area.

The man also stated that the same woman had struck him with a baseball bat the day before during an argument about him mowing the lawn.

Crossing paths again

A Burke County High School student claimed someone tried to run over her on her way to school.

The victim's grandmother stated that upon returning home from school, the victim said a 39-year-old Waynesboro woman had tried to hit her with her vehicle as she tried to cross the street to her bus stop Monday morning. The victim said she had to push herself against another vehicle to keep from being hit. The grandmother informed officers that this incident stems from a bus stop incident between the victim and the offender on the previous Friday.

According to the offender, she did not attempt to run the victim over but rather stopped to let her cross the street.

Partners in crime

Two men who tried to buy marijuana together were arrested in separate incidents just two days apart.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, officers reported to the Hopkins Drive area in reference to a suspicious vehicle occupied by two males who possibly had a gun.

The reporting officer was told by both men, Charles Marvin Sikes Sr. of Waynesboro and Bruce Allen Ward of Hephzibah, that they were trying to buy marijuana from a man with gold front teeth when he took the marijuana back. He also stole Sikes' money while pulling a gun on the men and telling Sikes if he got out of the vehicle he would be killed.

A background check revealed Sikes was wanted by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for previous charges of possession of marijuana. He was then arrested.

Ward was picked up two days later by Richmond County deputies on a BCSO warrant for theft by receiving stolen property. He was transported to the Burke County Jail.

Collision confusion

After being involved in an accident on Sunday evening, the driver of the vehicle tried to convince officers she wasn't even driving.

Carissa Denise Williams, 30, of Wayensboro told officers who responded to the West Sixth Street accident that the man driving had left the scene to go get the vehicle's paperwork.

According to a report, the driver's seat was pulled closely to the steering wheel and a pair of lady's slippers was on the floorboard. Williams was not only barefoot, but she also had a busted lip.

Witnesses, as well as a passenger in the vehicle, stated that Williams had been driving.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered Williams' driver's license had expired in November 1996, and she was placed under arrest for unregistered or unlicensed vehicle, no driver's license, no insurance, failure to maintain lane and interference with police.

The owner of the vehicle arrived on the scene and informed officers that Williams had taken his vehicle without permission.
