Bathroom break

A man stopped by the restroom in Bi-Lo to have a drink but walked out without paying for it.

On Monday, May 1, a man went into Bi-Lo, took a 16 oz. Country Club malt liquor beverage and then consumed it in the restroom. He then left the store without paying.

According to a police report, the assistant manager did not want to file charges against the man because his girlfriend came back to pay for the drink. The offender was told not to return to Bi-Lo.

Sunshine blues

A drunk and "belligerent" woman who claimed the sunlight took her breath away was arrested on multiple charges last week.

Shelly Lynn Allnock, 41, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., was arrested on Tuesday, May 2, for DUI, failure to maintain lane and property damage.

According to the report, Allnock failed to give a sufficient breath sample and told the

reporting officer that the sunlight was taking her breath away. She displayed several clues during field sobriety tests which indicated she was intoxicated. Allnock began screaming and yelling as officers arrested her, said she had done nothing wrong and asked officers to just follow her home. Allnock kicked the windows and door of the patrol vehicle and claimed that she was dying after being pepper sprayed and put in ankle shackles.

Officers were forced to carry Allnock to another patrol vehicle, which transported her to Burke Medical Center for testing.

The report states Allnock became belligerent several times at the hospital and claimed that money was missing from her purse.

Sinful surprise

After receiving a check for nearly $3,000 in sweepstakes winnings, a Waynesboro woman called the police.

She received a letter claiming she had won the American Sweepstakes Prize Pool with a check for $2,871.49.

According to a report, the woman said she knew it was a scam because she doesn't play the lottery and that it is a sin to do so.

A rose by any name

A landscaper refused to replant azalea bushes because they were the wrong color.

Last week a Hephzibah woman reported that her landscaper had come to her residence and removed 38 azalea bushes after she told him they were the wrong ones. According to the report, she had hired the man to plant red azalea bushes, but when the flowers bloomed, they were pink. The man told her he would not replace the bushes.

The plants were valued at $1,200.
