According to Richardson, the program allowed workers to educate citizens on the Avian Flu (Bird Flu), the type of shots they were receiving and Pertussis (whopping cough) while at the same time providing workers with a drill so they would be better prepared in giving mass immunizations in case of a pandemic. Richardson said 430 screenings and 540 shots were given in Burke County. The region, which covers 13 counties, screened a total of 6,075 patients and gave over 7,000 shots. More ... In an attempt to encourage local home ownership, the city of Waynesboro held an affordable housing fair. Agencies attending the fair were Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), USDA Rural Development and the CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. Over 40 people from the area attended the fair which was held at the Waynesboro-Burke campus of Augusta Tech. Attendees learned about home ownership opportunities offered by the different agencies such as loan and grant programs, budgeting, and home buyer education.
