Under the Helmet
# 59 - Terrence Dukes Son of Miriam Gardner, Terrance is dividing his time this summer between football and work. He works at the school system's Transportation Department. When not at the bus shop, Terrence likes earning money and riding ATVs. The 5'10", 230-lb. center is a returning starter to the Bears offensive line. The senior is a very consistent and steady player who coaches expect to help lead and develop the young offensive line the Bears will put on the field in September. He will also see action as a nose guard on defense. His favorite subject in school is math. He has a 3.0 GPA. His favorite teachers have included: Mrs Phinazee at Waynesboro Primany; Mr. Vincent at Blakeney; Mrs. Mobley at BCMS and Mrs. Griffith at the high school. Outside the classroom, Terrence was active in 4-H as a sophomore and attends Murphy Ebenezer Baptist Church. Under the Helmet is a series of player profiles for the 2006 Burke County Bears football team. The kids we pull for every Friday night in the Fall are all too often known for their accomplishments or failures on the field. We recognize them in their uniforms, but sometimes don't know them on the street. We think of them as football players and not as student athletes that often have to juggle class, practice, work and family. The football team is lifting weights and running three days per week in the summer. This series of profiles will help you get to know the kids on and off the field.
#3 - Brian Bell Son of Lowinder and Calvin Bell, Jr., Brian is a returning wide receiver for the Bears. The 6'0", 186-lb. senior will also see a lot of playing time at the outside linebacker position on defense. Off the field, Brian enjoys fishing, basketball, driving and eating. If you want to get him some grub, make it north-of-china chicken ... it's his favorite. In school, Brian says French is his favorite subject. Through the years, he's had a number of favorite teachers, including: Mrs. Cotton at SGA Elementary, Mrs. Flakes at Burke County Middle and Mrs. Stone at the high school. Brian plays football and basketball and has run track during his high school career. He runs the 40 in 4.63 seconds. Coaches say he has an outstanding work ethic and will be at Georgia Southern University later in July for a rising senior camp. Brian attends New Springfield Baptist Church. |
