Though Saturday, June 3, wasn't as sunny as some may have expected, area girl scouts still enjoyed a day of fun at the Waynesboro Recreation Department. The 4th service unit of the Savannah River Girl Scouts held a field day to conclude the year's activities. Throughout the year, the unit held other special events including, "Thinking Day", "Mamas In Pajamas", and a basketball tournament. At the field day, Troops 734, 793, and 702 competed against each other in a relay race, an egg-in-a-spoon race, the dizzy chicken, ball between the knees, a three-legged race, and a water balloon race. Troop leader Cynthia Griffin said the scouts rarely have a chance to interact with each other outside their respective troops. "These types of events give the girls an opportunity to have fun while getting to know each other," Griffin said. At the competition's end, the girls had a massive water balloon fight. Pictured above, Girl Scouts Ashea' Whitfield and Angel Williams double-teamed fellow scout Jessica Lovett, all of troop 702, in the water balloon mayhem. A concession area was provided by troop 734 and the proceeds helped them fund their trip to Walt Disney World, June 9-11. More ...
