WHS Class of ‘86

Waynesboro High School Class of 1986 will have a class meeting at the Burke County Library at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11.

All classmates are asked to attend to help with planning the 20-year class reunion.

WH&I Class of ‘65

The WH&I Class of 1965 presents “Western Night Out” from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17 at American Legion Post 270 on Highway 80.

Please dress in western attire. A donation of $10 would be appreciated.

Midville Branch Library

A special Black History story time program entitled “Who is Ruby Bridges?” will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at the Midville Branch Library.

President’s Day Story

The Burke County Public Library will have a President’s Day story time at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17.

Lineage Workshop

The Burke County Public Library will hold a lineage workshop Saturday, Feb. 18. For the time and to register, contact Sara Carter at 554-3560.

Computer Classes

Beginning computer classes will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 and Sat., Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Burke County Public Library. Brenda H. Jones, computer instructor at Burke County High School, will teach the classes.

Diabetic Teaching

Diabetic teaching will be available at Burke Medical Center 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9.

Limited space is available. Call Pansy Agerton in the dietary department at the hospital to sign up at 554-4435.

Partners and those who prepare food for diabetics are also encouraged to attend.

Black Coalition

The Burke County Black Coalition will present the 81st African American History Month and Black Beacon Awards Program at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The theme is “Celebrating Community: A Tribute to Black Fraternal, Social and Civic Institutions.” William J. Patterson of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Larry Burke of Prince Hall Masons and Mary J. Carter of Order of the Eastern Star will serve as guest speakers.

Awards will be presented to individuals for their contributions, achievement and impact on the community. The public is invited to attend.

Georgia Day

Georgia Day will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 11 with a luncheon sponsored by the Edmund Burke NSDAR.

Mrs. Robin Redfern Towns of Athens will provide the program and will portray Mary Eischperger Greiner, who has relatives in Burke County. Mrs. Towns will wear attire from the Pioneer Period.

The cost is $10, and the public is invited. Call Sara Carter at 554-3560 for reservations.

Progress Reports

Progress reports for the third mid-nine weeks will be issued for all Burke County school students Monday, Feb. 6.

CRCT Informational

An informational meeting on the Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT) for parents of first and second grade students will be held Thursday, Feb. 16 at Waynesboro Primary School prior to the PTA meeting.

Parents who want to learn more about the test and how they can assist their child should plan to meet in Room 306 on the second grade hall at 6:00 p.m.

Optimist Club

The Waynesboro Optimist Club is now accepting entries in its 2006 Oratorical and Essay Contests. The deadline for the essay contest is February 3 and the deadline for the oratorical contest is March 10.

Retired Educators

The Burke County Retired Educators will hold their regular monthly meeting at 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Senior Citizens Building on East Sixth Street.

New Beginnings

The Center for New Beginnings will host their monthly Special Needs Support Group for caregivers of children and adults with special needs Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. The group will meet on the bottom floor of the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro.

The speaker will be the director of B & B Services and will share information about possible funding for families.

Super Bowl Gala

The American Legion Post #270 will hold a 2006 Super Bowl Gala at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 5. Post #270 is located on Highway 80 West.

There will be food, fun and door prizes.

Post Commander Harrison Simpson invites the public to attend.

Childcare Workshop

Coffee Training and Consulting will offer a childcare workshop 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Burke County Public Library.

The workshop will cover infectious diseases, childhood injuries, and child abuse.
