Freeze, mister

A Waynesboro man was arrested Sunday after police found him walking through a neighborhood with a bag full of frozen food.

Charles Berrian, 50, was arrested for theft by taking following a confirmation from a Spring Valley Road resident that the food had come from the freezer in his garage.

Although Berrian originally told police the man had given him the food, he later changed his story, saying his mother gave it to him and he was trying to sell it, the incident report said.

Berrian was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon after officers seized a large knife.

Dropping a load

A Hephzibah woman reported that her Honda Accord was damaged last weekend, compliments of a wayward ladder.

According to an incident report filed at the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the ladder fell off another vehicle and skidded down the roadway. The victim did not have time to stop and ran over it.

The other driver, who had left the scene, will be charged with driving an unsecured load.

Bathtub bandit

Waynesboro police are looking for whoever stole a bathtub off West Seventh Street last week.

The victim told police he put the bathtub outside in order to do some remodeling.

According to the incident report, the claw-foot, cast iron tub is worth about $300.

Holy cow

A Perkins woman called deputies after finding a mutilated cow on Four Points Road last Wednesday.

According to an incident report filed at the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, someone skinned the animal and cut off its head and legs.

Tractor vandal

A Wrens logging company suffered $7,000 in losses last week when a vandal put sand and leaves in a tractor motor.

Before finding the damage, the company owner saw someone come out of the woods where his equipment was parked, the incident report said.
