Flying fun
     Pilots from across the region flew in for the 13th Annual Boshears Skyfest at Daniel Field Airport in Augusta last Saturday and Sunday. Pictured above are Burke County residents Doug and Cheryl Rhodes and their daughters Kathryn (left) and Hannah. Doug sits on the Executive Board for the event and flew his plane from his Burke County home to display it at the airshow. Hundreds attended the event where they enjoyed sky-high performances ranging from aerobatics to search and rescue demonstrations.

County considering employee pay plan
     After receiving several requests from department heads to figure raises in salary into the 2006 budget, the Burke County Board of Commissioners is considering an organized salary step plan for county employees.

18-Wheeler loses load
     A wreck occurred Friday, Oct. 7 on State Highway 24 near Sardis. Driver, Vernon Richard Brown, lost control of his 18wheeler, due to the uneven load packed on the truck. Rain and wet roads also attributed to the accident. Once off the road, the truck traveled 370 feet before stopping. The load of plywood spilled onto the road and slowed oncoming traffic. Brown was treated for minor injuries by Burke County EMA.

Jurors drawn for Superior Court
     Jurors have been drawn for the October 2005 term of Superior Court criminal/civil session. Judge William M. Fleming Jr. will preside. Jurors are asked to report 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24.

‘Miss Alden’s’ daffodils
     The memory of Mrs. Alden Dye will be celebrated each spring when the daffodils bloom at Burkeland Garden. Her son Paul Dye, center, and members of the Edmund Burke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently made donations to the Burkeland Garden Club to create a daffodil garden in her memory. Mrs. Dye was an active member of the Waynesboro Garden Club and enjoyed gardening during her long life. Pictured with Mr. Dye are Sara Carter, regent of Edmund Burke DAR, and Burkeland Garden Club president Nancy Buttermark.

Getting better every day
     The Burkeland Garden has two new benches and a trash receptacle, compliments of its namesake garden club. The additions to the garden at Ninth and Liberty streets in Waynesboro were acquired through fundraising projects during the leadership of former Burkeland Garden Club president, Sara Carter. The garden is a project of the club and the City of Waynesboro, both of which contribute to its continued improvements. Club members share the responsibility of caring for the garden each month and are documenting their work through journaling and photographs.
