Burke County softball improved to 5-7 on the season and 1-0 in region play after last week’s 9-1 win over Jefferson County.

The Lady Bears roughed up the Lady Warriors last Thursday. The game was slated for Tuesday, Aug. 30, but rain from Hurricane Katrina pushed the game to Thursday, Sept. 1.

While the win helped improve the team’s overall record, the most important aspect is that it sets the Lady Bears off on a good footing in Region 3S-AAA action.

The Lady Bears host Thomson today (Wednesday), and host Richmond Hill in a double-header Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.

The set with Richmond Hill starts the heart of the team’s region games. They travel to South Effingham Tuesday, Sept. 13 and host St. Vincent’s on Friday, Sept. 16. It will be a double-header at 4 p.m.
