Property owners on Highway 25 just north of Waynesboro objected to the taking of their front yards for the construction of the Savannah River Parkway.

Security Self Storage, owned by Henry Daniel, opened at the corner of Seventh and Perry streets in Waynesboro.

Dr. David Parris opened his dental practice at 663 Liberty St. in Waynesboro.

25 Years Ago: Aug. 13, 1980

Burke County Commissioners voted to place a local option sales tax referendum on the Nov. 4 General Election ballots to fund renovation to the Burke County Hospital.

Miss Lenn Elizabeth Hibble and Mr. Henry C. Hopkins III were married on July 27, in Macon.

50 Years Ago: Aug. 11, 1955

Post offices in Vidette and Rosier were scheduled to be closed by Aug. 31.

Alvin W. Neely Jr. was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship USS Iowa.

75 Years Ago: Aug. 8, 1930

Russell McNorrill and Dade Durden, respectively brought in the first and second bale of Burke County cotton. Prices were 25 ΒΌ cents per pound.
