James J. Sidwell

Air Force Airman 1st Class James J. Sidwell recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches; and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

James is the son of Callie Sidwell and Marion Dukes, both of Waynesboro. He is a 2004 graduate of Burke County High School.

Rebecca Vaughn

Rebecca Vaughn was presented with the "Top Gun" Military Leadership Award May 10, during an awards ceremony at North Augusta High School in North Augusta, S.C.

The award was presented to Rebecca by K. Ingram, Commander USN, Executive Officer Navy Recruiting District, Atlanta and is given to a cadet who has served in a high visibility position and has performed in an outstanding manner throughout the school year.

Rebecca is an upcoming sophomore at North Augusta High School where she plans to continue her involvement in the Navy ROTC program.

She is the daughter of Lou and Charmain Vaughn of Waynesboro and Karin Vaughn of North Augusta, S.C.

Christopher R. Miller

Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher R. Miller has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Christopher is the son of Royce Miller of Evans and Mary Holley of Waynesboro.

He is a 2001 graduate of Georgia Youth Challenge Program at Fort Stewart.

Keith R. Cummings

Army Pvt. Keith R. Cummings has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions and special training in human relations.

Cummings is the son of Elaine M. Cummings of Midville.

Chris Mangieri

Chris Mangieri was recently named to the Augusta Chronicle’s 2005 Georgia/South Carolina Independent Schools All-Area Baseball team.

The sophomore catcher at Edmund Burke Academy led all (public and private) CSRA high schools with a .620 batting average.

Chris also was a top five in slugging percentage, .990; on-base, .680; and had nine doubles, two homeruns and 20 RBIs.

He has also garnered GISA All-Region honors for the second time. He has achieved all of this while enduring a shoulder injury that will require surgery in August.

Chris is the son of Tony and Pam Mangieri and is the grandson of Dorothy Moore, all of Midville.
