     Carly Saxon, an Edmund Burke Academy senior, won first place in the Waynesboro Rotary Speech Contest held last week. Lillie Broom of EBA placed second and Jacoby Carpenter of Burke County High School took third.

     Blakeney Elementary School students recently competed in the Winter Math Competition. Students were chosen to compete by their classroom teacher based on their mathematical knowledge and ability.

Waynesboro Primary first graders raise money for St. Jude
      Thirty-two first grade students at Waynesboro Primary recently participated in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon program and raised $2,125 to help kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers.

Miss BCHS Sweetheart Pageant
     Zemeshia Herndon was crowned Miss BCHS Sweetheart 2010 at the Miss Burke County High School Sweetheart Pageant. The pageant was sponsored by BCHS’ FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) and held as part of FCCLA week. The pageant included 19 girls freshman to seniors.

     Burke County Middle School named the following students “Cubs with Character” for the month of February. These students exemplified the character traits of politeness, friendliness, kindness and creativity.
