Inmate attempts shoestring hanging
      A Burke County Jail inmate survived an attempted hanging by shoestring. Thomas Alexander Walker, 21, was rushed to MCGHealth Medical Center last Wednesday after- noon after his cellmate found him and called for jailers.

Brother is suspect in near-fatal shooting
      Police are calling a Twelfth Street shooting a case of Cain and Abel. Last Wednesday night, 27- year-old Maurice Hughes was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to each leg and a third one to his groin. His 22-year-old brother, Brandon Jamul Hughes, has since been identified as the gunman and is wanted for questioning.

      Two more burglars have been sentenced in connection with property crimes committed in Burke County last year.

Second suspect charged for stolen police radio
      A second person has been charged in connection to a police radio that was stolen from a deputy’s home. Waynesboro resident Madison Lewis, 25, will be charged with a felony count of theft by receiving stolen property, according to Sgt. Dan Lowe, an investigator for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
