      10 years ago: March 15, 2000 Burke County EMA Chief Earl Porterfield faced possible disciplinary action for taking part-time employment with the Richmond County Board of Education Safety Department. Cpl. Claude Wade of the Waynesboro Police Department received 250 stitches after an altercation with a shoplifter at Harveys Supermarket.

SCUPPERNONG VINE
      When I was a lad of about 10 or 12, we had a neighbor who lived behind us with a most fruitful scuppernong vine. That year was a good scuppernongs year and the vine was loaded. There was an area of tall weeds leading right up to the vine. I decided that I could sneak in there and get my fill of scuppernongs. I wasn’t greedy; I got just enough to satisfy my appetite.
