Mrs. Mamie Lee Stewart Widener, 95,
entered into rest Sunday, April
18, 2004 at the Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro. Funeral services
will be held 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 21) at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral
Home Chapel, with Walter Barton and Dan Ferus officiating. Interment
will follow in the Mt. Mariah Cemetery, Jefferson County, Ga.
Mrs. Widener retired as a food service employee from Hephzibah High School,
Richmond County Board of Education. She was a Pentecostal and a member
of the Hephzibah Church of God.
Mrs. Widener is survived by two daughters, Mary B. Kelligan (Jimmie)
and Terry Pittman (Richard); two sons, Walter Barton (Becky) and Rufus
Barton (Robin), all of Hephzibah; and 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren
and two great-great grandchildren.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Mr.
John R. Hunnicutt Jr., 64,
beloved husband of Jerri Hunnicutt, entered
into rest Thursday, April 8, 2004 at University Hospital. Funeral services
were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin
Road Chapel with the Revs. Melissa Weathers and
Edward Nelson officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Hunnicutt was a retired electrician with Kimberly Clark and was a
member of Berlin United Methodist Church. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog
football fan as well as a true golf fan. Mr. and Mrs. Hunnicutt had been
married for 47 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, William
Stevenson.
Survivors include his wife, Jerri Hunnicutt of Keysville; son, John R.
Hunnicutt III of Augusta; daughter, Denise Cooper and husband Stephen
of Hephzibah; a very special granddaughter, Kimberly Hunnicutt; sister,
Judy Johnson of Grovetown; and three brothers, David L. Hunnicutt of
Bassett, Va., Robert L. Stevenson of Fayetteville, Ga. and Wade Stevenson
of Manchester, Tenn. Pallbearers were Monroe Redd, Bob Fanning, David
Ford, Bill Barlow, D.E. “Red” Keen
and Dean Trull. Elliott Sons Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge
of the arrangements.
Ernest E. Moore entered into rest Saturday, April 17, 2004
at University
Hospital.Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at First
Baptist Church in Midville, with the Revs. Leonard Quick and Jerry Boyd,
officiating.
Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro.
Mr. Moore was born in Richmond County but lived in Midville most of his
life. An active member of the First Baptist Church in Midville, he retired
from Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals in 1982 and also retired from Helena
Chemical Company in 2003. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents,
W.R. and Maggie Moore of Midville; two brothers, Charles Eugene Moore and
Hydan Barry Moore; and one grandchild, Dorothy Alison Morris. Mr. Moore
is survived by his wife Dorothy Q. Sapp Moore; four daughters, Pamela Moore
Mangieri of Midville, Lisa Morris McKinney and Renee Story
Ellenberger, both of Waynesboro, and Cynthia Sapp McElmurray of Augusta;
two sons, David Gene Sapp of Martinez and Evans Harold Sapp of Warner Robins;
three sisters, Elizabeth Bragg of Sylvania, Louise Burke of Midville and
Melodeen Edwards of Evans; one brother, William R. Moore of Clearwater,
S.C.; eight grandsons, Anthony Paul Mangieri, Christopher Lee Mangieri,
Joseph Alson Morris Jr., Benjamin Frederick Story Jr., Jason Michael Sapp,
Chase Evans Sapp, Stephen Bradley Sapp and Brandon Harold Sapp; four granddaughters,
Melissa Story Sanderson, Ann Marie Sapp, Paige E. Hughes and Brooke W.
Ellenberger; and one great-grandchild, Allie D. Hughes.
The grandsons served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the First

Mrs. Margaret Brinson Jenkins, 83,
entered into rest Tuesday, April 13,
2004 at her residence.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Midville United
Methodist Church, with Pastor Tony Smith and the Rev. Sue Diebolt officiating.
Interment followed at Midville City Cemetery. Mrs. Jenkins was a lifelong
resident of Burke County. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in
1938 and graduated from nursing school in Columbus,
Ga. She worked as a nurse in Emanuel County until retiring in 1987. She
was a member of the Habersham Methodist Church in Perkins. Mrs. Jenkins
was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Cobb Jenkins (1971) and son
Tyrus Wayne Jenkins (1969). She is survived by daughter, Jill Jenkins Schiraldi
of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; son, Terry D. Jenkins of Conyers, Ga.; two sisters,
Lena B. Dixon of Augusta; Peggy B. Langham of Waynesboro; sister-in-law,
Helen J. Bainbridge of Millen; brother-in-law, Wyman Langham of Waynesboro;
and eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. Pallbearers were Hamp Pender, Wade Pender, Bill Dixon, Phillip
Bainbridge, Bill Bainbridge and Roy Cook. Memorial contributions may be

Mr. Elra Milton Shields, 51,
of Sardis, entered into rest Thursday, April
15, 2004 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Funeral
services were held 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Sardis United Methodist
Church with the Revs. Karen Zeigler and Eugene Shields officiating. Interment
followed at St. Mark’s Cemetery in Sardis. Mr. Shields was a veteran
of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Wade Shields of Sardis; three children,
Milton (Bo) Shields of Denver Colo., Jeremy Robertson (Brandy) of Sardis,
and Bradley Robertson (Lisa) of Augusta; three sisters, Brenda Gail Sparks,
Judy Fuller (Gene) and Vickie Beeman (Bruce); and three brothers, Stanley
Shields (Billie), the Rev. Eugene Shields (Barbara) and Wayne Shields (Margaret),
all of Lexington; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Stanley Shields, Milton Shields, Jeremy Robertson, Billy
Jack Meyers, Jimmy Sapp and Fayte Murray. Honorary pallbearers were members
of the Surviving Sons Motor Cycle Club. Memorials may be made to the Burke

Mrs. Virginia Cowart Mulling Dixon, 97,
formerly of Twin City, Ga., died
Friday, April 17, 2004 in Orange, Va.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Twin City
Cemetery, with Elder Mike Gray officiating.
Mrs. Dixon was a native of Emanuel County and was the daughter of the late James
Emmet and Dora Virginia Rountree. She outlived 13 brothers and sisters and most
of her cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands,
Arthur L. Mulling Sr. and Bonnie Dixon, and was the loving mother of the late
James R. Mulling and Thomas W. Mulling. A student of home economics, she held
degrees from the Georgia State College for Women and Teachers College and Columbia
University. She was a member of Waddell Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of
the American Revolution and the Rapidan Garden Club. Her greatest joys were her
family, friends and flowers. She helped many young people to get an education.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia S. Mulling; a son, Arthur L. Mulling Jr.;
grandchildren, Craig and Cheri Mulling and Sylvia and Tere Maldonado; two great-grandchildren,
Kanoa Mulling and Gina Liu; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

entered into rest Tuesday, April 13,
2004 at her residence.
