The
annual Relay For Life begins this Friday at 6 p.m. at Burke County High
School. Festivities and opening ceremonies begin with the The Survivors'
Walk. This is a very touching celebration of life overcoming cancer.
Lots more is planned. Hope to see you there!

I had the honor of witnessing the marriage of Kelli Marie Ezzell and Brad
Atchison last Saturday at Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta.
Kelli is the daughter of Jimmy and Marie Ezzell, employees of The True
Citizen. Jimmy is our editor and Marie is our proofreader.
I learned just a few days before Kelli's wedding that the officiating
pastor would be the Rev. Earl Saxon, former pastor of Rosemont Height's
Baptist Church.
It was a lovely service. To re-affirm Kelli and Brad's vows, Earl would
respond Amen after each of their responses to each other.
Another new addition to weddings nowadays is a short video of the couple
from birth to until their marriage. It was touching.
The flowergirl and ringbearer were especially cute and added humor to
the ceremony.
Miss Ashley Atkins, niece of the groom, daintily walked down the aisle
scattering rose petals.
When the wedding party was all present and the ceremony began, she decided
it was time to walk back down the aisle and to scatter more rose petals.
When all of her petals were gone she went and sat with her parents.
The ringbearer, Brandon Ewing, covered his ears during the music as the
couple gazed at each other. I guess he was embarrassed at the show of
affection with romantic music at his young age.
I also met all of Jimmy and Marie's family from Virginia. They have a
lovely family.
I wish Kelli and Brad all of the happiness life has to offer mixed with
blessings and much love.

Mary Bennett was by the office last week grinning from ear-to-ear and
with much reason.
She and her husband, Charles, were guests at the Honors Day Program at
Georgia State University on April 18.
Their son, Keinon, was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award posthumously.
The award was presented for outstanding achievement in kinesiology and
health and it was the first time it was given posthumously, said Dr. Ronald
P. Colavusso, dean of the college.
Georgia State will also give the Keinon Award only in the years in which
a deserving candidate is identified to any graduate of the health and
physical education program at the school who has completed no more than
three years of full-time teaching in K-12 schools.
The award will be given to the teacher who best exemplifies spirit, professional
dedication, personal enthusiasm and positive contributions to the quality
of life for all those around him or her as shown by Keinon in his own
career.
Also, this May at the Marietta Middle School where Keinon taught, a Keinon
Bennett Scholarship award will be presented to two students. It is an
all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
How proud Charles and Mary must be!

We will have a section to remember those who gave their lives for our
country; in memory of those who served and in honor of those who have
served and continue to serve.
We do not want to leave anyone out.
