Velma Perkins
Velma Mae Braswell Perkins, 78, of Hephzibah died Friday, April 19, 2002
at her residence. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Clarks Chapel,
with the Rev. John Adams officiating. Burial was in the Clarks Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Perkins was a homemaker and member of the New House of Worship in Keysville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Perkins Sr.; a son,
Wayne C. Perkins; a daughter, Norma Jean Saturday; and a son-in-law, Robert
Saturday.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin OBryan of Blythe; three sons,
Rev. William R. Bill Perkins Jr. of Augusta, Morris Edward Perkins
of Martinez and Jerry L. Perkins of Blythe; six sisters, Alma Rouse and
Bonnie Sue Adams, both of Homerville, Anna Lou Perkins of Keysville, Betty
Ansley of Thomson, Madeline Adams of Pearson and Myrtle Braswell of Tennessee;
a brother, Joe Braswell of Homerville; and 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Eckstein, Joe Skinner, Scott Eckstein, Hubert Padgett,
Chuck Corley, Patrick Perkins and Chris Hopkins.
Ruby
Feaster
Ruby Feaster, 88, of Waynes-boro died Friday, April 19, 2002.
Her funeral will be 12:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 24), at Second Springfield
Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Givens officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery. Mrs. Feaster, a native of Burke County, was a member
of Second Springfield Baptist Church and a Mother of the Church. Survivors
include three nieces, Georgia Holloway and Vera Coleman Wells, both of Passaic,
N.J., and Sheila H. Pierre of Waynesboro; a nephew, William Lovette of St.
Petersburg, Fla., and three great-nieces.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Hoyt M. Goodson Jr.
Hoyt Mayfield Goodson Jr., 76, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, April 16, 2002
at University Hospital in Augusta. Graveside services were 4 p.m. Thursday,
April 18, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, McBean, with the Rev.
Dan King and Dr. Francis L. Ford officiating. A memorial service will also
be held 5 p.m., Sunday, April 28, at the Unitarian Universalist Church,
3501 Walton Way Extension, Augusta.
Mr. Goodson was a native of Augusta, but had lived over 20 years in Burke
County. He had retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad with over 30 years
of service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country
with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and then serving with the U.S. Marine
Corps from 1947 to 1950. He was an active supporter of different causes,
an author and a poet. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church
in Augusta and was very active in his church.
Survivors include his widow, Liz Goodson of Waynesboro, two stepsons, Brad
Cahoon of Athens and Forrest Cahoon on Minneapolis, Minn.; four sisters
and their husbands, Margie G. and William B. Streeter of Savannah, Jo G.
and Otis B. Kni-ght, Peggy G. and Traylor Crozier and Donna G. and Alan
Boland, all of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were nephews,
William B. Streeter III, Mark G. Streeter, W.H. Doc Knight,
Ben Knight, Tanner Knight, Joseph Crozier, Hoby Crozier, David Crozier Jr.,
Rick Boland and Daniel Boland. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Unitarian Universalist Church, 3501 Walton Way Extension, Augusta, Ga. 30909;
or to the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Attn: Jo Knight, 183
