Shay
Williams
Karla Shay Fulcher Williams, 33, of Hephzibah died Tuesday, April 9, 2002
from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Burke County. Her
funeral was 4 p.m. Friday, April 12, at DeLoach Funeral Home in Hephzibah,
with the Rev. Alan Weaver officiating. Burial was in Hephzibah Vance Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, a native and lifelong resident of Richmond County, was
a drywall finisher for D.C.S. Acoustical Ceilings in Hephzibah. She was
a Protestant. Survivors include a son, Cody Kilpatrick Kight of Mississippi;
two brothers, Clay Fulcher and Shane Fulcher, both of Hephzibah; her parents,
Doy and Janice Fulcher of Hephzibah; and her paternal grandmother, Virginia
Fulcher of Hephzibah. Pallbearers were Ted Fulcher, Wayne Fulcher, Brad
Stocker, Chuck Ellis, Mike Smith and David Fulcher.

Williams
James Earl Williams, 40, of Hephzibah died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, from
injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Burke County. His funeral
was 4 p.m. Friday, April 12, at DeLoach Funeral Home in Hephzibah, with
the Rev. Alan Weaver officiating. Burial was in Hephzibah Vance Cemetery.
Mr. Williams, a native of Laurens County, lived most of his life in Burke
and Richmond counties. He lived most of his childhood in Burke County
and attended school in Sardis and Waynesboro. He was a Baptist. He was
a sheet rock hanger and finisher for D.C.S. Acoustical Ceilings in Hephzibah.
Survivors include two daughters, Katheryne Cecil Williams of Augusta and
Heidi Hobbs of Millen; two sisters, Jacqueline Elaine Williams of Sardis
and Joan Williams Brock of Charleston, S.C.; his mother, Gelaine W. Barkley
of Kingsland; three nephews, Jason Crews and Michael Crews, both of Sardis
and Joseph Brock of Charleston, S.C.; and two nieces, Jamie Crews of Sardis
and Helen Brock of Charleston, S.C. Pallbearers were Jeffery James, Harold
Brock, Curtis Sewell, Michael Crews, Jason Crews and Joseph Brock.
Bob
Herrington
Olen E. "Bob" Herrington, 79, of Waynesboro died Wednesday,
April 10, 2002 at University Hospital. Graveside services were 2 p.m.
Friday, April 12, at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville.
Mr. Herrington, a native of Providence, Ky., had been a resident of Burke
County since 1962. He was a retired bird dog trainer, having trained dogs
at DiLane Plantation and Boll Weevil Plantation since moving to Waynesboro.
He was a member of the Georgia Field Trials Association and a U.S. Army
Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his widow, Mary Ann Herrington
of Waynesboro; a son, Robert Herrington and his wife Marilyn of Americus;
and three grandchildren, Monica Herrington, Miranda Nunez and Robert Herrington.
Mitchell
Bell
Mitchell Bell, 74, of Sardis died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at University
Hospital, Augusta. His funeral was 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at New
Springfield Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rex Wright, Joseph B. Williams,
Charlie Lambert and Allan Jacobs officiating. Burial was in New Springfield
Cemetery. Mr. Bell, a native of Burke County, was a former farmer. He
was a deacon, former usher board chairman and Sunday School member. Survivors
include his widow, Lena W. Bell of Augusta; six daughters, Marvenia Taylor
of Macon, Miriam Mason of Covington, Judy Bell and Felicia Bell, both
of Alexander, Michelle Bell Ali of Germany and Tonya Bell of Augusta;
three stepsons, Lucious Gordon of Lawton, Okla., Wycliffe Gordon of New
York and Eric Gordon of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Karen Gordon
of North Augusta, S.C.; a brother, Calvin Bell Sr. of Waynesboro; a sister,
Gussie Whiting of Waynesboro; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Vince Bell, Marlon Mason, Robert Lee Thomas Jr., Larry
Lewis, Marcus Mason and Thomas Whitfield Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of New Springfield Baptist Church.
Sarah Alley Skinner
Sarah Alley Skinner, 94, of Dublin, died Saturday, April 13, 2002.
Her funeral was 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at First Baptist Church, Dublin,
with the Rev. Dr. Cliff Morris and the Rev. Wally Weaver officiating.
Burial was in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Skinner, a native of the mountains
of North Georgia, was a graduate of Women's College of Georgia. She married
J.J. Skinner and lived 40 years in Waynesboro. She then moved to Dublin
to be near her son, Dr. Jones Skinner Jr, who preceded her in death, and
his family. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of the Eastern
Star, the Parnassus Study Club, Dublin Fine Arts Association and the Dublin
Garden Club. She volunteered as a reading and literacy tutor. She was
a member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin. Survivors include a sister,
Ruth Peacock of Eastman; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Skinner of Dublin; two
granddaughters, Sarah L. Skinner of Lilburn and Mary E. Skinner of New
York; and three nieces, Grace Virginia Walsh of New York, Barbara Simon
of Las Vegas and Katherine Thomas of Warner Robins. Pallbearers were Dr.
Pat Roche, Wayne Christian, Edward "Bo-j" Burton Claxton III,
Roy Black, Raymond Thomas, Ben Snipes and Billy Knowles.

Elnora Lightfoot Jackson
Elnora Lightfoot Jackson, 92, of Waynesboro died Sunday, April 7, 2002
at Burke Medical Center, Waynesboro. Her funeral was 1 p.m. Saturday,
April 13, at Porterville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ulysses Barber
officiating.
Mrs. Jackson, a native of Burke County, was a homemaker. She was a member
of Porterville Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Willie James Jackson
Sr. of Waynesboro; four daughters, Julia Rivers, Elnora Jackson, Mae Pearl
Jackson and Daisy Lawrence, all of Waynesboro; and 14 grandchildren, 21
great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Leevert
Jackson, Tyrone Wilson, Terry Lawrence, Willie Jackson Jr., Thomas Lawrence
and Willie Jackson III.
