EDITOR:
I would like to take this time to thank some very important people. As
most of you know last Sunday, April 14, 2002 our school (EBA) had a fire
that did extensive damage to the gym, cafeteria and several classrooms.
My husband is on the coaching/teaching staff and we left our house immediately
when we received the call. The firefighters were already hard at work
trying to save our school when we arrived.
I watched all morning as they brought truckload after truckload of water
to the school. They worked very hard for a long time. Thank you so much
for your efforts. Things could have been much worse but because of your
fast action and hard work it wasn't.
Also, I would like to thank Greg Coursey and his deputies. They did an
excellent job with crowd control. There was a great concern that the building
was not structurally sound and someone could have been injured. His men
did a great job preventing this from happening.
Most of all I would like to thank the community. You all have been wonderful.
Everybody pitching in to help and offering what they have to our school
has made a tragedy a little less painful I am very proud to live in a
community where so many care so much.

I would just like to take a few minutes to thank a nice young man for
taking the time out to stop on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 16, 2002
to help my students and me on Griffin Landing Road.
I often watch the TV show Touched By an Angel. But now I know what it's
really like to be touched by two angels.
I didn't get your name, but I wish that I would have so that everyone
who meets you would know that you are one of our angels. Because I had
to stay on the bus with the students and you stood outside trying to see
how you could help. All I know is that you work at Georgia Power "Plant
Vogtle." We were blessed when you came along because when you have
tried everything that you could think of, just call on Jesus. For John
15: verses 26-27 say:
"But when the comforter is come whom I will send unto you from the
father, even the spirit of truth which proceedeth from the father, he
shall testify of me:
"And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from
the beginning."
"For the word of God is true."
And I just can't thank God enough for you because it's so dangerous now
even in your own homes. I am so glad to have people like you around passing
through the area.
I tried my best not to call the bus shop because they work so hard everyday.
They didn't even get spring break. They are busy all day, everyday trying
to keep Burke County School System transportation running. I just didn't
want to call on you all but I thank you all also for being one of our
angels on that same day.
Sometimes it's just the little things that you do that mean so much. Like
fueling and changing and checking oil and even changing our tapes and
coming to our rescue.
Again I say thank you and may God bless you both, because you are our
heroes.
Thank you!
Ms. Bradford and Bus #01-32 students

Thank you will never express the way my heart feels. My beloved EBA on
fire and an outpouring of friends and supporters, both public and private,
offering their love and concern in more ways than can be expressed. This
was so evident everywhere I looked on Sunday morning, April 14, as tears
rolled down my face.
The EMA and firefighters worked so diligently (men and women) to help
save our school. A community pulling together to show they cared touched
our hearts.
Our EBA family appreciates each of you for your prayers, love and concern
as we begin to rebuild for next year and finish school for this year.
I realize every day that a family, a school, a community and a country
that prays and works together, stays together and I will always remember
the true expressions of love and concern for our EBA parents, children,
headmaster, teachers, the board of directors and staff and our beloved
Edmund Burke Academy School.

I lived in Waynesboro until age 10 when, in 1957, my family moved to Florida
where we have lived since. My sister, Vicki, and I attended Waynesboro
Grammar School and we all attended the First Baptist Church on Liberty
Street only a couple of blocks down from our old house.
My dad built a new house three miles out Herndon Road only a year or two
before we moved away. Recently, while reading your online newspaper, I
recognized several names of school friends that I remember. I wondered
if any of these old friends remember me? Jim Weeks, my e-mail address
is jweeks3553@aol.com.

As a proud alumna of EBA and a proud teacher in the Burke County School
System, I want to comment on our community's response to the recent fire
devastation at Edmund Burke Academy.
We should all be grateful for the co-operation and generous offers made
by the Burke County Board of Education to accommodate EBA students and
their prom guests this past Friday.
As a parent of an EBA student, I feel certain that the future of our beloved
institution is secure. We are indeed fortunate to live in a community
that supports the needs of all its people.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the merchants for their
contributions in the 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt this year. The merchants
participating in the event were: Capital City Bank, Wal-Mart, Harveys
Supermarkets, Goldberg's Furniture, A & W Oil, Kwikset and The Men
in Black Social Club.
A special thanks to Police Chief (Karl) Allen of the Waynesboro Police
Department.
Without the help of these merchants this event would not have been a success.
