Blakeney principal takes top job at Newton High School
BCP will bid farewell to longtime leader

      Burke County is losing two of its leading educators this summer. Blakeney Elementary School principal Roderick "Rocky" Sams accepted an offer last week for the top post at Newton High School near Atlanta. He will to start his new job June 1.

Writing scores go up for eighth-graders

      Eighth graders at Burke County Middle School showed modest gains on the state writing test, but school officials say it's just not enough. Nearly 61 percent of the students who took the test either met or exceeded standards. Some 59 percent did so last year.

Augusta Tech holds open house
      Augusta Technical College's, Waynesboro campus held its open house last Thursday, May 1, with more than 200 people attending the event. Fifteen booths were set up inside the school, offering a variety of services to those in attendance.
